Auditions are held in July. The specific audition dates will be posted in May.
Placement decisions are thoughtfully made by experienced, independent judges that we bring in specifically for auditions. They consider a variety of factors, including prior attendance, previous experience on a DSC team, performance quality, technical ability, and ballet etiquette. In some cases, a dancer may not yet be ready for the fast-paced and demanding environment of our competition teams. When that happens, we strongly recommend continuing in our Academy Program to further develop skills and confidence, and we encourage them to audition again in the future.
Competition dancers are expected to attend all scheduled rehearsals, performances, and competitions, consistency is key to both individual growth and team success. Depending on the team and age group, dancers typically train 2–3 times per week.
Being part of a competition team also involves a financial commitment. This includes tuition, costume fees, competition entry fees, and optional team apparel. Costs can vary based on the team and age group.
